I think you are looking for something like that:

  local iter=string.gmatch(murgaLua.version,"%d+")
  local major,minor,sub=tonumber(iter()),tonumber(iter()),tonumber(iter())
  if minor<=5 and sub<=5 then print"You must use a murgaLua version > 0.5.5" os.exit(1) end
